Tips for visiting Westminster Abbey

You could do the walk around Westminster Abbey in under an hour without stopping if you go at an easy pace.

However, many people like to spend a full day (or more), because there's so much to see inside.

To avoid the queues, try using your Westminster Abbey tickets early, during off-peak hours. If you're visiting in July or August, arrive at the opening time, or about 20 minutes before.

Lunchtime is usually the busiest time of the day (just after the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace).

Westminster Abbey closes later than usual on Wednesdays, at 18:00. Only individual visitors are allowed in at this time. Try to arrive by 16:00 and you should have plenty of time to explore in peace.

Worship takes place every day in the Abbey. There are usually four services daily at 07:30, 08:00, 12:30, and 17:00. On Sundays, there are six services at 08:00, 10:00, 11:15, 15:00, 17:45, and 18:30.

There are several different kinds of Westminster Abbey tickets available, all of which will you give you a memorable day at this legendary landmark.

  • Buy Westminster Abbey entry tickets and gain access to all of the public spaces within the abbey

  • Join a guided or self-guided tour to learn even more about this historic structure

  • Combine your visit with other iconic London experiences, like the Changing of the Guard, the Royal Mews, the Tower of London and public transport with a city pass

No large luggage, rucksacks, or suitcases are allowed inside, but there are places to store your larger bags if you need to.

You can bring a camera, but remember that photography is not permitted inside Westminster Abbey. There are security staff in every room and they're very quick at spotting visitors who are taking photos.

Good
Good and easy to use though the description of the go pass is misleading because it does not include the hop on hop off city bus for free. That counts as one credit used. Otherwise very easy to use
