There's an overwhelming amount of natural beauty waiting to be found in Yehliu Geopark. And, if you let your imagination run free, you could mistake the rocks for coming to life as their natural shapes seem to move before your eyes. As you walk along the cape, you'll encounter a countless number of rock formations that seem to defy nature's design.
The waters that shaped these beautiful sculptures were notoriously treacherous in times past, and legends of a battle between a wicked turtle elf and a servant fairy of the Jade Emperor grew around the area. Remnants of that fight still survive, and as you walk through the park you'll find a number of these vestiges.
Look out for the Fairy's Shoe, shaped by the erosion of rocks of different hardness; elephant rock, which was the fairy's mount she rode to tame the turtle; and the famous Queen's Head, that is said to bear a resemblance to Queen Elizabeth of Tudor England. Make sure to keep an eye out for hidden caves, a gorilla shaped rock, and erosion potholes where pools of water catch the light and form glittering reflections.
