Description

Start with an early bus ride from Rome through the Italian countryside. Reach Pompeii for a 2-hour guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buried by Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, Pompeii shows ancient Roman life with the Forum, amphitheater, and preserved villas with frescoes.

After the tour, have lunch at a local restaurant with regional specialties. Post-lunch, head to Mount Vesuvius, an active volcano. Learn about its history and eruptions, then hike to the crater to see the Bay of Naples.

If Mount Vesuvius is closed, visit Sorrento instead. The coastal scenery and lemon groves are well-known here.

End the day with a bus ride back to Rome, thinking about the history and sights of this trip.
