About: Musée des Hospitalières de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal
The mission of the Musée des Hospitalières de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal is to tell the story of Montreal's origins and foundation, to promote the history of Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, to exhibit the tangible and intangible heritage of the Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph, and to explore the history of health care and health sciences.
Located in the protected area of Mount Royal, an enchanting natural setting, the Museum showcases one of the best-preserved convent complexes in the city, that of the Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph. The complex, built in 1861 to plans by architect Victor Bourgeau, includes their former monastery and garden, the hospital, three chapels, a crypt and the Museum, located in the former chaplains' residence.
