Ready for a fun history fix? Tour this former home of President George Washington and former plantation, which has all been impeccably restored to its 1799 glory. Did you know, George was also a farmer?

There are sweeping views of the Potomac River, landscaped gardens, and rooms packed with a rich history. The site also features costumed actors, who, like most people in politics, will be only too happy to pretend it's still 1799!

With the Grounds Pass, you can take a self-guided walk around this immense property, enjoying panoramic views of the Potomac River. Discover how Washington designed the fine landscape and beautiful gardens. Step into period outbuildings and chat with the costumed cast of characters about 18th-century farm life.

There's a lot to see inside the museum included in the Grounds Pass. Inside the exhibit Mount Vernon: The Story of An American Icon, you’ll meet the people who shaped Mount Vernon, including Washington and Custis family members, enslaved and hired laborers, and Vice Regents of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association.

Make sure to pay your respects at George and Martha Washington's tomb, and take a moment to visit the slave memorial, which commemorates the enslaved people who lived and worked at Mount Vernon.

Your ticket also gets you into Washington's Distillery & Gristmill (opening times vary), which was once one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America.

  • Show your smartphone ticket at the entrance
  • The entrance is located at the Orientation Center

A free Mansion tour ticket is available at the ticket office on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive early, as Mansion tours are likely to sell out, especially on weekends.

  • The Mansion at Mount Vernon is currently undergoing preservation work; rooms will be taken off-display temporarily as the work progresses.

  • From July 8th, 2024 through 2025, the Education Center exhibit on George Washington’s life will be off display for an extensive rebuild.
