Luna Park is renowned for its collection of rides to suit all ages (and bravery levels). The rides are divided by thrill rating, with Extreme, High, Moderate, and Mild thrill categories. That means whether you're looking for high-octane adrenaline kicks or child-friendly fun, Luna Park rides have you covered.
Some of the most popular rides at Luna Park include the Coney Island Cyclone, a historic wooden rollercoaster that's been in operation since 1927; The Thunderbolt, a 2014 steel replacement for the park's original wooden ride of the same name; and Sling Shot, which does exactly what you think it does.
There are also lots of family-friendly rides on offer, everything from the swing-through-the-air action of Lynn's Trapeze to the toddler-appropriate Fire Patrol and Rainbowheel.
Luna Park in Coney Island usually opens in early April and operates (either daily or on weekends) through until the annual Halloween event in the fall. You can stay up to date with the park's calendar by visiting the official website.
At peak times, Luna Park can be busy. However, waiting times for rides are manageable even during the busiest summer months. If you're looking to buy Luna Park tickets during a quieter window, aim for early and late season days and avoid the vacation rush!
Just roll up and show your Luna Park tickets, and the rest will be taken care of by the smiling Luna Park staff. Exchange your ticket for a wristband that will get you four hours of fun inside the park, with access to the iconic Coney Island Cyclone and a complimentary ride on the Sling Shot included!
Coney Island made its name as a seaside resort near Manhattan in the late 1800s. It's always been an escape for New Yorkers, a place to forget the hubbub and let down their hair. In the early 1900s, the first rides opened at Coney Island, and Luna Park was born.
The Park was destroyed in a fire in 1944, and reopened as Astroland in 1962. After a forgettable season under the Dreamland moniker, the original Luna Park name returned in 2010, along with the epic fairground atmosphere.
History is everywhere at Luna Park. The entrance is based on that of the 1903 park, and the Coney Island Cyclone is an official New York City Landmark.
Luna Park at Coney Island is a fun-packed theme park by the sea. You'll find 30 rides of all kinds, from high-speed coasters to relaxing carousels. The wooden coaster Cyclone is the most famous of its attractions.
Luna Park is easy to reach from Manhattan and other areas of New York by car, or via the D, F, N and Q trains to Stillwell Avenue.
