Hamburg has more bridges than any city in the world, but the longest and most important bridge is its link to the New World. Dubbed the Port of Dreams, the city's harbor was the last stop made by millions of migrants before traveling to the Americas.

Trace the footsteps of Europe's emigrants and discover a treasure trove of moving personal stories, genealogical records, and immersive historical exhibits at the incredible BallinStadt Emigration Museum in Hamburg.

Featuring three large exhibition spaces, the museum is a time capsule that preserves the memories of millions of people who left European shores in search of a better life in North and South America. It's immersive, arresting, and downright fascinating!

Marvel at amazing photographic exhibits that convey a thousand words each, with the hope, longing, and heartache written vividly across the faces of each migrant who passed through BallinStadt.

Explore faithfully recreated living and sleeping pavilions and be transported back in time to over a century ago. Feel the anguish, sense of displacement, and hope for a better future across 14 themed rooms covering each aspect of the emigrants' journeys - all the way to Ellis Island and beyond.

Family tree enthusiasts can peruse the passenger lists from 1850 to 1934, the largest collection of its kind in the world. What's more, an entire family history research area has been set up in collaboration with the world's largest online genealogy center, including trained staff on hand to help you research your roots.
