Dive into the ‘surreal worlds’ that open up beyond the bars of logic and promise a life of freedom in this new rotating exhibition. Highlighting works from the permanent collection, surrealism in its broadest sense takes centre stage here, with important predecessors and successors presented alongside the main proponents of the movement that started in the early 1920s in Paris.
The Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is located in Berlin-Charlottenburg, on the city's west side. The buildings containing the Museum Berggruen and Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg were actually commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. They were completed in 1859 after taking eight years to build. The most recent expansion was in 2013.
