Tips for visiting Barcelona Zoo

The best time to visit Barcelona Zoo is first thing in the morning when it opens. This way you will avoid both the long lines and the crowds.

Groups of school children tend to visit between 10:00 and 12:00, with lunchtime being the busiest, and late afternoon the quietest. Any time you decide to use your Barcelona Zoo tickets is a great time to go though; there are more animals to see, and more to learn about the natural world every time you visit!

You can take as long as you like to make the most of your Barcelona Zoo tickets, but most people need about 2 to 3 hours to see all the animals.

Barcelona Zoo prides itself not just on housing hundreds of species of fish, but also animals like birds, insects, reptiles, mammals, and more. You may fall in love with the zoo's 5,500 creatures and want to stay all day.

Barcelona Zoo is an accredited zoo, and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), and the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). Both alliances are dedicated to the care and conservation of animals and their habitats around the world.

You can explore guilt-free, knowing that the Barcelona Zoo Foundation is continuously launching new research, conservation, education and awareness-raising projects. The zoo hopes to preserve and promote biodiversity, and educate people on the inter-relationships between different forms of life.

Every weekend, as well as during public holidays and school vacations, Barcelona Zoo organizes open activities for all visitors included in the entrance fee. Choose the ones you want to get involved in and take the kids down there – there are new options every week!

Barcelona Zoo also offers holiday camps, which are perfect for all those young animal lovers. Each unique educational activity option is designed to bring children closer to the world of wildlife and help them foster respect for the conservation of biodiversity and the natural environment. Just ask a staff member how to register for a holiday camp when you arrive, or check the official website for more information.

There are two restaurants at Barcelona Zoo. El Terrarium serves up spaghetti bolognese and macaroni, pasta carbonara, fun salad and fruit salad cups, pizza, cold and hot sandwiches, celiac-friendly options and a children’s menu. Find it on the terrace outside the Terrarium building, every day from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm.

La Granja café is a hit with the kids, located at the Zoo Farm, next to the children’s playground. Try the rotisserie chicken, as well as fresh salads, pizzas, a wide range of sandwiches and a children’s menu. It's open on weekends and public holidays only from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Want to bring a picnic? Claim a picnic table at one of three designated areas. Head to either the Lady of the Umbrella, Parliament or Farm zone – you'll see them all on the map when you enter Barcelona Zoo. Please use the recycling bins next to the tables and help keep the environment clean and safe.

It wasn't really necessary to buy skip the line tickets, because it wasn't really crowded. But ordering the tickets was easy and the discount was good as well

I Wish we had paid at the gate because as seniors, we could have had a better price. There was no line at the gate so we did not get any benefit by booking online.
