Duration: 1h 30mins
Wheelchair accessible The museums are barrier-free accessible (the Museum of Castle and Hunting History only partially). Please let the main ticket office know if you need assistance.
Step into history at the so-called Crown of the Ore Mountains and explore the 16th-century grandeur of the Augustusburg Castle Museum. See awe-inspiring wall paintings in the Venus Room and the Hare Room. These works are unique in the German-speaking world and were commissioned by Elector Augustus of Saxony.
In the adjoining rooms, weapons, historical furniture and courtly Renaissance-period clothing are on display, while the hunting and courtly life of the time are documented in greater detail. The museum of hunting animals and ornithology is dedicated to the fauna of the Ore Mountains with 120 impressive dioramas that show mammals and birds of the region.
