If you want to visit the Washington Monument, there's good news. The tickets are free!

However, you'll see need a a ticket with a timeslot. All visitors (including children aged two and over) must have a ticket to enter the Washington Monument.

Your free ticket can be booked either online, in person, or by phone at 877-444-6777.

Walk up tickets (same day only)

  • Get your free same day tickets from the Washington Monument Lodge, located along 15th Street between Madison Dr. and Jefferson Dr.

  • The lodge opens at 08:45 and tickets are released on a first come, first served basis

  • One person can get up to six tickets as well as request their preferred ticket time

  • Please note: many visitors begin to queue for tickets long before the ticket window opens

Online Advance Tickets

  • There is a non-refundable $1.00 service charge per ticket to cover the reservation service

30-day advance reservations:

  • You can book your Washington Monument tickets up to one month in advance of visiting

  • Tickets 30 days in the future become available at 10:00 each morning (e.g. on August 9 at 10 am, tickets for September 8 will be available)

  • 24-hour advance reservations:

  • Need last-minute Washington Monument tickets? A limited number of additional tickets are made available at 10 am each day for the next day's visits (e.g. on September 7 at 10 am, tickets will become available for visits on September 8)

  • You can go inside the Washington Monument – it's best to book a free ticket in advance

  • There is a 500-foot high observation deck at the top of the monument – don't worry, there's an elevator

  • There is also a museum at 490 feet up

  • The interior of the monument is lined in commemorative stones honoring George Washington

  • Wondering why the colour of the monument changes suddenly? Construction was paused for a number of reasons, so different stones were used when building resumed

  • You can see two states from the top of the Washington Monument – Maryland and Virginia
