Cruising through Carrapatelo Lock is quite an experience. The water level rises (or falls) 35 metres each time the lock is used, with the water being used to generate hydroelectricity.
The Barragem de Crestuma-Lever also serves as a crossing for pedestrians and vehicles. It’s a real thill to watch your captain inch the boat through with millimetres to spare!
Lunch served during navigation.
The Douro Valley is often referred to as the enchanted valley, and for good reason. Feast your eyes on landscapes of unparalleled beauty and feel the magic as you cruise on past.
Free time at Peso da Régua, a town for a vine-old-time on the banks of Douro River. This region has been producing port, a type of wine fortified with brandy, for more than 2,000 years!
Return to Porto from Régua on an air-conditioned bus.
For reference only. Itineraries are subject to change due to weather, traffic and other circumstances.
Take to the water for a brand new perspective of Portugal on this cruise along the Douro River. You'll soak up spectacular views of the Douro Valley in the northern region of Portugal, powered by a delightful breakfast and lunch.
Embark at Cais da Estiva in Ribeira do Porto, and relax as your crew sails you into the Douro Valley, passing through the vineyards of one of Europe's first demarcated wine regions. Continue past Quintas to the Crestuma-Lever Dam just in time for lunch.
With a full stomach, sail further along the Douro River to the Carrapatelo Dam, cross the "wine capital" at Régua and return to Porto by bus at around 8pm. A must for wine-lovers everywhere.
Combine Douro Valley Day Trips from Porto with other Porto favorites. Some things are better together.
