This 7-hectare park, immersed in a forest on the hills surrounding Pistoia, is home to 550 animals, belonging to 100 different species. With a 50+ year history, it is among the most important Italian zoological institutions for its commitment to the conservation of biodiversity, and for its ability to involve visitors in exciting and fun experiences with nature.
A visit to the Park is an opportunity to interrupt the frenzy of the world and relax with the people you love most. Every season and day of the week offer different observation points: the fresh scent of spring, the joy of summer or the colors of autumn are the backdrop to days of silence during the week or to the festive weekends when the park comes alive with many free activities for visitors of all ages.
Walk your own pace, stop to listen to one of the talks and learn about the different animals, or participate in workshops with the children and learn how to detect the footprint of a bear or catch the right size fish.
Passionate about dinosaurs? You can book the Dino Lab and travel (with the help of virtual reality) with your family, into the Jurassic forests and meet a T-Rex. For a truly unique experience, book one of the "Close Encounters”, where penguins, lemurs, and giant tortoises are the protagonists of the stories.
Throughout the day read about the commitment of the GZP, where the park keepers take care of the animals entrusted to them by the international community through the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums). These projects are for the protection of species at risk of extinction. Researchers are stationed in front of the exhibits to collect information on the animals' behavior, as every detail is important to get to know them better and protect them in their natural environments.
The natural habitats are at the center of the many conservation projects financed by the GZP, a commitment to guarantee the future of the many species at risk of extinction. A visit to the Pistoia Zoological Garden is therefore an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature and take care of it.
