Originally a Catholic convent, it was significantly damaged in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, leaving the ruins of the Gothic church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which is worth a visit. Currently, the former convent serves as an archaeological museum, the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo, houses a vast collection.
