Westminster Abbey stands as one of the world’s most significant churches, one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks, and a vivid window into the life and legacy of one of the most influential figures in modern British history: Queen Elizabeth II.

This incredible 700-year-old building is a must-see for any visitor to London. It has welcomed Kings, Queens and statesmen, royal weddings (most recently Prince William and Kate Middleton), and state funerals.

For over 1000 years, Westminster Abbey has been the all-important site for royal coronations. Queen Elizabeth’s funeral was also held at the Abbey. As you explore the all-important church alongside your expert local guide, you will discover the most incredible and fascinating aspects of this great monument.

Every British monarch since William the Conqueror in 1066 has been crowned in Westminster abbey, the most recent being Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. You’ll see the Coronation Chair, commissioned in 1296 by Edward the Confessor, as well as his shrine. It is also the burial place of 17 British monarchs, the Unknown Soldier (buried in French soil and covered by a slab of Belgian marble), and many of Britain’s greatest poets who lie in Poet’s Corner.

This was a special place for the Queen, who has visited the tomb on many occasions, laying a wreath in honor of those who gave their lives for their country. Finally, visit the magnificent Lady Chapel, where Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip in 1947. This breathtakingly beautiful chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and features stunning stained-glass windows and intricate stone carvings.

After your visit to the Abbey, your guide will lead you to the Changing of the Guards. This world-famous ceremony takes place either at Buckingham Palace or at the Horse Guards Parade, depending on the day. Your guide will ensure you are in a prime position to enjoy the best views of this crowded and popular ceremony.

Enjoy exquisite commentary on the history and pageantry behind the ceremony as you see the Queen’s Foot Guards donning their red tunics and unmistakable bearskin hats. March to Buckingham Palace together with the military band or the Household Cavalry. (Please note that in heavy rain the guard’s parade may not take place).

End your tour at Buckingham Palace and see the famous balcony where the royal family appears during major events and hear stories of intruders and princes scaling the walls to get both inside and out!

Throughout our tour, we'll learn more about the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II, one of the longest-reigning monarchs in British history. From her early life as a princess to her coronation and reign, we'll explore the many milestones that have defined her remarkable career.

Join this fascinating journey through royal London as you unveil the city’s decadent monuments one by one and discover the history and legacy of one of the most influential women in the world: Queen Elizabeth II.
