The world-famous Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the Polish jewels on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You'll find the mine in the town of Wieliczka – in the Kraków metropolitan area – where the extraction of salt began on a broad scale in the 13th century. Today the mine attracts about 1.2 million guests from all over the world every year.
After meeting your driver in Kraków, you'll travel to the town of Wieliczka. From there, you'll head up to the mine and skip the line, getting right in. This is where the real adventurous morning begins as you join your group and meet your guide who will lead you into the heart of the mine for around two hours.
You'll take the tourist route of the mine and see a number of underground highlights. Before you reach them though, there's approximately 380 steps to descend before you reach level one of the salt mine.
Get ready to walk the underground passageways and discover marvellous salt chambers; underground saline lakes; and the jewel of the mine, St. Kinga's Chapel which is fully carved out of salt, including its famous salt sculptures.
