This combination of experience is perfect to do in a day.
Herculaneum is stunning and small in comparison to Pompeii. If you enjoy a wander, are interested in the history you’ll enjoy it. I particularly like the uncovered mosaics.
If like my husband and children, once you’ve seen one ruin, one mosaic, one kitchen or road you’ve seen enough, this isn’t for you.
My children were most interested to see all the bones under the bridge. But it’s far in the distance so easy to miss and you can’t get near and so they were a bit disappointed.
If you like statues, the museum has some great ones including drunk Hercules which we found funny.
The bus to Vesuvius drops you off right near the top so there only a short walk to the top. It’s a good but dusty path and not particularly challenging. The views are super impressive. The time you have from drop off to pick up is perfect. If you like natural history you’ll love this. We loved the experience.
