Depart north from Edinburgh, passing the imposing ramparts of Stirling Castle and driving through the Trossachs National Park, known as Rob Roy country. Cross the wilds of Rannoch Moor and stop at Glencoe, infamous for the 1692 massacre.

Continue through Fort William, passing Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, before entering the Great Glen. Arrive in Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness, with opportunities to take a boat cruise, walk, or relax by the Caledonian Canal in this charming Highland village.

On the return, travel past Loch Laggan, climb the wild Drumochter Pass in the Cairngorms National Park, and head south into Perthshire, a land of forests, rivers, and mountains, stopping in a small village. Continue south over the Firth of Forth to view the Forth Bridges before arriving back in Edinburgh.
