Pending the renovation of the Amsterdam Museum's main location at the Burgerweeshuis on Kalverstraat, the museum can be found at a new temporary location at Amstel 51, where an entirely new collection exhibition will offer a space for lesser-known voices and more recent histories of Amsterdam to be spotlighted, alongside familiar objects from the Amsterdam Museum's famous collection.

Amsterdam Museum

4.2 / 5 (135 reviews)

The Amsterdam Museum tells the story of the Dutch capital, from the Middle Ages through the 17th century, and right up to modern times. When it opened its doors in 1926 it was located in the Waag at the Nieuwmarkt. In 1975 the museum moved to its current location, just off the Kalverstraat, a building that was originally a municipal orphange. The collection is full of photos, artifacts and interactive exhibits.

Overall layout excellent and easy access. Very busy but we would expect that but clear labels and a good guide plan. The cafe however was small with a long wait.

Well worth the price. Good museum with different perspectives and has some interactive displays. The dolls depicting the lives of slaves were amazing. The timeline of the history of Amsterdam is very well done. Also the interviews with the holocaust survivors was moving.
