History of the Hudson Yards building
Hudson Yards is a mixed-use development on Manhattan’s West Side. It represents one of the most ambitious urban projects in the United States. The idea of revitalizing the Hudson Yards area dates back to the mid-20th century when it was an industrial and rail yard space that wasn’t used to its potential. The plan to transform it into a modern, lively neighborhood began in the early 2000s.
The Hudson Yards project started in 2012 and had two main phases. The first phase focused on building the basic infrastructure. This included extending the 7-train subway line, creating a public space called “Hudson Yards Park,” and constructing various buildings. This phase aimed to set the foundation for a thriving community that would attract residents, businesses, and visitors.
One of the standout buildings in Hudson Yards is 30 Hudson Yards, also known as the “North Tower.” This skyscraper was designed by the architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) Associates and completed in 2019. It’s one of the tallest buildings in New York City, standing over 1,296 feet high. The building is known for its modern and sleek design, with a distinctive tapering shape and a striking glass exterior. Inside, it hosts a mix of commercial, retail, and residential spaces, making it a prominent addition to the city’s skyline.
